C Home
C is a powerful, general-purpose, procedural programming language. Developed in the early 1970s by Dennis M. Ritchie at Bell Labs, primarily for developing the UNIX operating system, C has become one of the most influential and widely used programming languages.
Despite its age, C remains highly relevant due to its efficiency, flexibility, and low-level capabilities. It provides constructs that map efficiently to machine instructions, making it ideal for system programming, embedded systems, operating systems, compilers, device drivers, and performance-critical applications.
Many modern languages (like C++, C#, Java, Python) have borrowed syntax or concepts from C.
Audience
Section titled “Audience”This tutorial is designed for aspiring programmers or those new to C, aiming to build a solid understanding from the ground up. It covers fundamental concepts and practices, providing a stepping stone towards more advanced C programming and systems development.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”A basic understanding of general computer programming concepts (like variables, loops, conditional logic) is beneficial. Familiarity with any other programming language might accelerate learning, but this tutorial starts from the basics.
You will also need access to a C compiler (like GCC or Clang) and a text editor to write and run the code examples.
